Cape May County
Cape May County is the southernmost county in New Jersey. It is the peninsula that hangs off the southern portion of the state. It's most well known for its shore/beach towns that extend up the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. The total area is approximately 620 square miles (1,607 km²). 255 square miles (661 km²) of it is land and 365 square miles (946 km²) of it (58.86%) is water. There are several major roadways that lead into the area. If you are coming from the north (North Jersey and New York area), the Garden State Parkway runs the entire Atlantic coastline and directly into the county. If you are coming from the west (Philadelphia area), you can take the Atlantic City Expressway, U.S. Route 322, or State Route 55. All three roadways lead into the Garden State Parkway. And there is always the Cape May Lewes Ferry if you are coming from the south.

Of the above mention municipalities Avalon, Cape May City, Cape May Point, North Wildwood, Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Stone Harbor, Wildwood Crest, and Wildwood City all border the Atlantic Ocean and are tourist destinations. The westerly side borders the Delaware Bay. Thus, most of the coastline is developed and the interior portions are less densely populated.
